Shapovalov has since become a tenor of international standing in Europe, Israel and the United States. His career highlights have thus far included the following operatic successes: Steva in Jenufa, Ismaele in Nabucco and Jenik in The Bartered Bride with the New Israel Opera; Maurizio in Adriana Lecouvreur and Eleazar in La Juive with the Opera Orchestra of New York conducted by Eve Queler; Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor with the Fort Worth Orchestra; Vodemon in Iolanta with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Temirkanov, and Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. Other appearances with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra include the world premiere of Penderecki’s Seven Gates of Jerusalem conducted by Lorin Maazel at the closing event of the Jerusalem 3000 festivities, and a television appearance as one of the three Israeli tenors in a concert conducted by Zubin Mehta.
In addition, his versatile talents were acclaimed in his performances in the Habimah National Theatre production of Masterclass, and as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables. |
His operatic successes during the 2003-2004 season included Don Jose in Carmen with the New York City Opera, and the Prince in Rusalka with the Paris Bastille Opera, where he was also the cover understudy for Don Jose in Carmen. Early in 2004, he starred as Don Jose in Carmen with the Pittsburgh Opera and a few months later, he performed in Janacek’s Glagolitic Mass with the Lille National Opera, conducted by Jean-Claude Casadesus.
In April 2004 he made his debut with the Metropolitan Opera as the Prince in Rusalka. Shapovalov was invited to sing the role of Pierre Bezukhov in Prokofiev’s War and Peace with the Bastille Opera in Paris in March 2005.

In 2006, Shapovalov appeared with the Johannesburg Festival Orchestra. Following the outstanding success of the performance, he was invited to appear again with the orchestra in November, 2007, during which month he also appeared with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. He has been invited to sing the role of Vaudemont in a concert performance of Iolanta with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Yurovsky in October, 2008.

In July, 2012 Yevgeni was invited to sing Canio in Leoncavallo s Pagliacci, conducted by Gavriel Heine in Northern Lights Music Festival in Minnesota (USA). |
